Hi! I'm Valerie.
I started teaching English Composition at Cincinnati State in 2019. In 2021 I also began teaching online for the University of Cincinnati-Clermont College. I have a Master of Arts in English from Northern Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from SUNY New Paltz in New York state. I also recently completed my Online Teaching Excellence Certificate through UC's Center for the Enhancement of teaching and Learning (CET&L).
I am the 2025 recipient of the UC Clermont Excellence in Teaching award for part-time faculty and was promoted to the rank of Adjunct Assistant Professor in July 2025. I actively work to bring attention to the plight of part-time faculty at the University of Cincinnati, acting as communications chair for the UC Adjunct Advocacy Association Employee Resource Group and as a board member for UC Clermont's Part-Time Faculty Advisory Council.

I moved to the Greater Cincinnati area from upstate New York in 1993 to pursue my Doctorate in Philosophy. I taught one recitation section of Introduction to Philosophy for one term at the University of Cincinnati before deciding I was not a good fit for their PhD program.
I have always had a passion for writing, both academic and creative, and I love sharing my love of writing with my students. Since embarking on my college teaching career, I have discovered my calling. I have a passion for teaching and connecting with other educators, always on the search for tried and true pedagogical approaches.

While this website is primarily an enhanced CV, I also envision it as a space where I can share resources and encouragement with other college instructors who teach in my field. Likewise, I offer several services for students, including tutoring, writing consultations, and workshops.

So pour yourself a cup of your favorite warm beverage, pull up a chair, and take a look around!
